Let me tell you a secret… you don’t have to stand and pose for a family portrait!

We had so much fun wandering through the fields and outcrops during our outdoor family session! Cheryl was so accommodating, friendly and professional. A really relaxed session where she was able to capture us all as we are in our own environment.

I am a family photographer based near Huntly in Aberdeenshire and covering Aberdeenshire and Moray. As a mother myself, I know that children don’t like sitting still and it’s in their nature to run around and play. That’s why my family photography sessions are all about having fun rather than the stiff, awkward posing that is usually the norm for family portraits.

I love nothing more than seeing children happily playing in the dirt, or chasing each other in a game of tag – let’s face it, those are the real memories that you want to cherish. I thrive on capturing the true happiness and the bond that families have.

I tend to hang back and just let you enjoy some time with your family while I snap away and capture those memories for you to cherish forever. Now and again I might crack a wee joke to help get some giggles out for a nice smile for the camera but mostly, it’s time for you to have fun and forget that I am even there!

Or if you prefer, I can come to your home. They do say home is where the heart is and this is where you feel most at ease.  This is where I  can really capture the fun and laughter that happens every day.

Whether it’s celebrating a birthday/anniversary, or to welcome a new member of the family – an in-home session is the perfect opportunity to update your family photos. 

Those beautiful, ordinary moments that, in time, will mean so much more than a posed studio portrait.

Here’s what to expect when booking a session…

BOOKING

Once you get in touch, I  will have a wee chat with you and try to get to know you a bit better. We’ll choose a location that you love so that you will be totally at ease and can just relax during the session. If you can’t decide on a location, I have a few favourites that may give you some inspiration. 

Upon booking, there is a £50 session fee to pay which secures your date. More information can be found here

BEFORE THE SHOOT

Around 2 days before the session, I will be in touch to confirm timing and location before we meet for the shoot. Here’s where you can ask me any last minute questions such as…

What to wear? 

There is no need for impeccably coordinated outfits! No need to rush to the shops to get matching outfits for everyone! Just wear what you are most comfortable in. I would advise that clashing colours and clothing with large logos should be avoided but if that’s what makes the children happy – go for it! Happy children means better images for your family collection. 

What do I have to do?

The photo shoot is a fun, stress-free experience. 

Children don’t need to sit still and pose for the camera. If they’re running around – great! It’s all about having fun rather than being told where to stand and, most importantly – I will never force a smile for the camera! 

Apart from the odd moment where I may try and make a shy child giggle, or give you slight direction for the best light, the main aim of the session is for you to have fun, be yourselves and be as relaxed as possible! 

AFTER THE SESSION

I aim to provide a sneak peek the same day as the session, while I work on editing the remainder of the gallery. Finished galleries will usually be ready 2 or 3 days after the session, but occasionally it may take a little longer. 

Galleries contain up to 40 images which have been edited in my own style. Special mini shoots will contain slightly less images due to the time constraint of the session. 

A link will be emailed to you so that you can view your gallery online for a period of 1 month after the shoot date. You will then be shown a slideshow of images from the session and given the package options to choose from.
